The grounding electrode system is key to keeping electrical systems operating in a safe and effective manner. Grounding electrodes such as ground rods, pipes, or plates, along with the connected grounding electrode conductors, serve as the highway for ground-fault currents and stray or overcurrent voltages to safely dissipate into the earth when these unwanted events occur. This presentation will take a close look at perhaps the most effective grounding electrode that can be present on the job site, the concrete-encased electrode. It will also all eight types of grounding electrodes described in Section 250.52(A) of the National Electrical Code and their role in keeping our homes and workplaces safe from electrical catastrophe.
