Art Benveniste

Art Benveniste was born and raised in Los Angeles, in a community of Ladino-speaking Jews from the Island of Rhodes. Mr. Benveniste will cover a short history of immigration from Iberia to the Ottoman Empire; a short review of the Aegean Jews focusing on Salonika and Rhodes; immigration to America, mainly Los Angeles, Seattle, Atlanta, and New York; founding of Sephardic organizations/synagogues in LA including excerpts of Minutes of early meetings written in Ladino and images of synagogues, leaders and activities; and Culture, including The language and its differences from Castilian Spanish; Sayings, songs and jokes; foods, superstitions and folklore; and relations with other Jews.
