Presentation will discuss the Sephardic origin of the surname Portillo from Spain to América an specifically Central América and the hypothesis of its Sephardic roots, using also the historical context of other related surnames like Melgar, Peres, Gonzáles, Arita, Lavin, from the 16th to the 20th century in Sefarad (Spain) and America. Quotes from some poorly published documents will be shared. Historical context of the Sephardim in Spain and their transfer to America as converts and the lost memory of its Jewish origin will also be presented.
