Presenter: Kathy Kirkpatrick

Starting with a DNA test showing the 12 Marker Cohen Modal Haplotype (CMH-12), we searched back through Civil Records to their start in Palermo in 1820. Then back in Catholic Church records to a 1638 marriage in Palermo, but the groom was from another town without earlier church records, preventing further church research on this line. We also searched tax/census records in 1652 showing this family name in towns near Palermo as well as in Palermo City. We located adult baptisms (conversions) along with infant baptisms in Palermo church records in 1492. The indexed and published court records show this surname in the Jewish community in Palermo as early as 1362.
