Presenter: Pam Schoenfeld, RD

Format: MP4 Video file download
Includes: Audio & Slides

Pam will be discussing how the health and quality of life of seniors is being harmed by the very dietary guidelines that are purported to reduce chronic disease. Due to the continued emphasis on a ?plant-based? diet and vegetable-source oils, and compounded by ongoing recommendations to limit saturated fat and cholesterol, the USDA?s Dietary Guidelines for Americans put vulnerable populations at real risk for malnutrition. Although seniors may have grown up on traditional foods, unfortunately it appears the majority now believe that many of the most nourishing foods, including liver, whole eggs, and cheese, are harmful to their health. In addition, senior care facilities adhere to the recommendations of the Dietary Guidelines, either due to federal regulation or to accepted best practice. While life expectancy remains relatively stable in the U.S., the quality of life in what are supposed to be the ?golden years? does not compare to that of populations following traditional diets as observed by Dr. Weston A. Price. Pam will discuss why this is and how a few relatively simple changes can dramatically improve nutritional intakes for seniors and in turn, their overall health and longevity.
