Western Governors University uses an online, competency-based model to meet the needs of a predominately underserved population. This session will cover numerous topics including the basics of offering financial aid to online students, types of aid programs available for online and non-traditional students, and WGU's unique Mentoring and Student Services model. We will explore WGU's approach to engaging students in the financial aid process through focus groups, webinars, and other uses of technology to determine such things as the cost of attendance, documenting last date of academic activity, scholarships, and loan repayment. We will also draw upon the experiences of other online education programs at a community college, four-year public college, and a private institution to learn more about delivering Title IV aid to online learners.
