Insight therapy is often more effective and permanent than direct or indirect suggestion. When we change the idea that makes a person sick, we can change an illness. Often the fixed idea is unconscious. Uncovering, analyzing and reframing feelings and underlying beliefs associated with symptoms nearly doubles the effectiveness of direct suggestion in hypnosis. Ideomotor signaling is the fastest analytic technique for facilitating empathy and access to unconscious, pre-conscious and preverbal memories. Hypnotizability is not an issue and the technique is useful in most types of hypnotic therapies. Ideomotor signals can be used to quickly identify the most significant psychological factors in an individual case, confirm or deny acceptance of a suggestion, call up an ego state, or review subconscious imprints of information that do not come up in the conscious history.

In this practical workshop, we will discuss the theory and use of ideomotor signals, demonstrate the technique, and provide participant practice exercises. We will review the seven common causes of psychosomatic disorders and provide a model and a set of techniques for assessing these keys to rapid symptom resolution in the treatment of presenting problems such as pain, asthma, warts, anxiety, depression, anger, PTSD, smoking and weight.

During and at the conclusion of this session, the attendee will be able to:
-> Describe and employ a protocol for conducting an intake evaluation that elicits pertinent psychodynamic information;
-> Use a protocol to employ when direct suggestion in hypnosis does not work;
-> Use ideomotor signals in a wide variety of their cases to improve the efficacy of their hypnotic interventions; and
-> Demonstrate skill in the use of ideomotor signals, clinicians will be better equipped to effectively address sources of clients’ “resistance” and roadblocks to treatment success.
