New HR metrics and workforce analytics have the potential for improving managers' decision making and promoting evidence-based management. However, HR professionals frequently face challenges in providing managers with information that will actually be used. A series of interviews with high-level logistics and distribution managers at various stages of using HR metrics and analytics reveals useful insights that help answer these questions: What HR metrics and workforce analytics do managers consider most relevant to the business actions they must take? What can HR professionals do to gain and sustain managers' adoption of HR metrics and analytics?
Lynn Turner, Professor of Management and Human Resources, Cal Poly University Pomona, College of Business Administration, developed the course, HR Information Management at Cal Poly Pomona (1987-Present). He has consulted on large HR system implementations. As an executive administrator (2003-2008), he helped implement PeopleSoft at Cal Poly Pomona.
