24909 - Contemplative Approach to Care for Others and Self $30.00
Select Format:

Presenter: Koshin Paley Ellison MFA, LMSW, DMIN & Robert Chodo Campbell
Format: Video of slides with synchronized audio

This session is an exploration of the contemplative approach to caring for others and self, the caregiver. Spiritual assessment tools enable us to help the caregiver observe and discern suffering in its various forms and how to transform such suffering into healing. It’s these tools, inclusive of mindfulness techniques, that cultivate the practice of self-care. Participants will learn how to communicate effectively and empathically with patients regarding their illness, hopes and fears. Underlying all of our behavior are operational values and ethics that we employ on a daily basis. We will note how those values and ethics come into play in delivery of care to others and self. For only when we practice self-care can we truly be with fully present for others. And then by extension, we recognize that self and other are not separate.

Learning Objectives
- Practice Mindful approaches to caregiving and self-care
- Learn how to communicate effectively and empathically with patients regarding their illness, hopes and fears.
- Assessing what operational values and ethics we employ in care of others and self
