Many people have asked me through the years for instructions on how to get clarity about their intuition. My answer today is: Do you want to listen to your gut or to God? It takes far more courage to listen to God. Intuition is a natural sense that we have, but it is a “survival instinct”. Higher guidance is an earned spiritual relationship ? one that is developed between your soul and the Divine. Beyond your gut instinct is your spiritual intuition and intelligence. Spiritual Directors in monasteries, seminaries, convents and ashrams have for centuries guided their novices into the interior passages of the soul (the Interior Castle), so this inner landscape is not new ground. But it is new for us. And as many people are learning, Spiritual Direction is exactly what they have been seeking, as it has given them the means to examine the significant questions of life within a spiritual context.
