 20911 - Sharing the Wealth – Passing on the Teachings of Kay Thompson, DDS $16.00
Select Format:

Formats: MP3 Download $16   |   Compact Disc $20

Presenter: Holly Forester-Miller, PhD, LPC; Charles Srodes, MD & Karen Olness, MD

This session will introduce newer participants to the teachings of Dr. Kay Thompson, one of Milton Erickson’s major protégés and a fabulous proponent and teacher of hypnosis. For those more seasoned attendees (mostly salt & pepper) who had the opportunity to know Kay, it will hopefully provide a refreshing review of lessons learned and internalized many years ago. All attendees will gain insight into the hypnotic thinking and teachings of Kay Thompson.

The presenters have taught with Kay for a combined total of 58 years. Dr. Forester-Miller did individual consultation with her once a month for three years. Our intent is to share as much of what we’ve learned from her as possible. The presenters will address some of the classic teachings of Dr. Thompson through demonstration, discussion, and in her own voice by sharing parts of Kay’s lectures and consultation sessions.

The presentation will include aspects of her teaching related to her masterful use of language, conversational inductions, her belief in hypnosis as an opportunity to expand possibilities, and her techniques for developing entrancing metaphors. Transcripts of some of Kay’s metaphors will be included as handouts. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to experience a dual induction (or multiple induction) in the way Kay utilized them in workshops. Attendees who have been fortunate enough to have learned from Kay Thompson will have the opportunity to briefly share their favorite technique or “Kayism” that they have learned.

During and at the conclusion of this session, the attendee will be able to:
-> Demonstrate a more considered and precise use of language;
-> Design more effective and patient centered metaphors;
-> Identify a broader basis for assessing what is possible in helping their patients; and
-> Create specific techniques and suggestions they use for each individual patient.
