ASCE 7-16, “Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings and Structures,” serves as the technical basis for wind load determination and has been incorporated into the International Building Code, 2018 Edition as a requirement for determining wind loads. ASCE 7-16 contains a number of significant roofing-specific changes that will have a significant impact on wind design and the application of roof systems. In this presentation, Mark S. Graham, NRCA’s vice president of technical services, will provide an overview of roofing-related revisions to ASCE 7-16. Resulting changes to perimeter and corner fastening patterns will also be discussed. Several examples will be presented showing the magnitude of the differences between ASCE 7-16’s values from those of ASCE 7-10 and ASCE 7-05 (and FM 1-28). Time will be allotted at the end of the presentation for questions from the audience on the topic. Learning Objectives: 1. Learn about ASCE 7-16 and its applicability 2.
