Website www.appledoesnotfall.com, my family history, is the result of 11 years of research and recollections. It contains family trees and albums; photos from recent travel to Berdichev, Korsun, and Belaya Tserkov; verbal life story of an average Soviet Jewish intelligentsia family in Stalin's and post-Stalin's times; glossary and historical background; and illustrations to the story, from pictures of communal apartments to household items. The most important is the account of the mid-1970s Jewish emigration from the USSR, the era little known in the U.S. Even those who fought to make the emigration possible and were brought up on echoes of old-country roots do not know what it cost mentally to cut the cord and what the effort entailed in practical terms. I belong to the last generation to have lived that period of history as adults and it is my generation's responsibility to keep that history alive.
