23691 - Hungarian Jews in the Austro-Hungarian and Hungarian Military?Overview and Resources for Research $10.95
Select Format:

Karoly Vandor

Have you ever tried to confirm whether an ancestor served in the Army of the Austro-Hungarian Empire or tried to trace relatives who were conscripted into the Labor Battalions in WWII? This presentation is intended to acquaint researchers with the history of Hungarian Jews in the Austro-Hungarian and Hungarian Armed Forces as volunteers, soldiers, officers or even secretaries of defense. The speaker will discuss useful printed and online resources about the participation of our ancestors in the Army and their decorations. The presentation will cover the 1848-189 Revolution to the present and deal with such little-discussed topics as the Army of the Hungarian Soviet Republic in 1919 and Labor battalions in WWII. Information will be provided about how and where to look, which books to consult and which repositories to visit as well as the limits of such searches.
