The earliest reference to a Passport is found in the Old Testament. Nehemiah, a Jewish official serving King Artaxerxes I of Persia in 450 BCE asked leave to travel to Judah. This presentation covers the history of passports from that time until the present. It shows how important and how much information can be gathered from a passport for genealogical research. Included will be a section on the Internal Passports available from the Russian Empire including Lithuania. We will also discuss the different types of passports and where they were originally obtained in the U.S before the State Department took it over.in 1856. Finally, we will show some Passport Applications from famous individuals in the United States which are included in my books that contain unique information and quite a bit of trivia. The presentation will be educational, informational and fun!
