The Boston Jewish Advocate "Seeking Kin" Database is a component of The JewishGen USA Database. It contains names and other information extracted from 5,000 "seeking kin" advertisements published in the Boston Jewish Advocate between 1916 and 1990. While some advertisements were submitted by individuals, most were written by agencies attempting to reunite families and friends separated involuntarily and unaware of each other's whereabouts. Although many were thought to live in the Boston area, the individuals sought could have been living in states other than Massachusetts. This database was created by volunteers from the Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Boston. The purpose of this presentation is two-fold: To encourage researchers to utilize The JewishGen USA Database even if they think they have all the U.S. records available concerning their immigrant ancestors To encourage genealogical societies in other parts of the country to create a similar database
