The Blumenthal brothers arrived in New York in the mid-1800s and made their way to Michigan. They first settled in Traverse City and within a decade had moved to West Branch, Ogemaw County, Michigan where they opened the first dry goods store in town. The original residence of one of he brothers is, today, the historical society building. The family split up and one brother went to Standish where he opened another store, and eventually sold the store and moved to the Detroit area. The generation born in Detroit had no memory of relatives in West Branch. This presentation discusses the movement of the family and the research and repositories involved in finding and reconnecting the family.
