When Our Clients Report Paranormal Experiences
Philip Accaria, PhD; Philip R. Appel, PhD

Audio Sample:

When clients who do not have a frame of reference for understanding Psi phenomena experience it, it can become disturbing and create anxiety and even lead to depression. The patient who each time wakes up dreaming of an elderly relative only learning at the end of the day after the dream that the relative they dreamed about did die becomes afraid of his dreams. The patient who feels empathically what others are feeling and interprets the mood states as own, becoming overwhelmed with the emotional roller coaster of daily life are simple examples of the kind of issues that we shall address. This workshop will focus on helping the participants distinguish Psi phenomena from hallucinations and delusions; and how to carefully evaluate the patient's presentation. The workshop will also cover a variety of techniques to help these patients learn to deal with their sensitivities and abilities and decrease their adjustment difficulties. Participants attending will be encouraged to bring their own case examples and to share their techniques and strategies for helping ground, contain and normalize these experiences. The format will be didactic as well as experiential.

Participants will be be able to conduct a proper differential diagnosis when clients are presenting ego-dystonic experiences that may be related to unrecognized intuitive abilites. They will also learn stategies for reframing, containing and directing the Intuitive function (Jung and Assagiolli's term).

At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to…

Describe three Psi phenomena that a client might present with;

Describe how to perform a differential diagnosis to rule out hallucinations and delusions;

Discuss at least two different strategies for helping contain and direct the Intuitive
