A case study of best practices for pre-incident planning for an almost 1 million square-foot hospital complex being newly constructed will be presented. The complex includes multiple buildings up to seven stories in height in a suburban/rural community, with biweekly preplan tours completed and information updated and shared with community responders in real-time. The process included a partnership with the municipality, the health care systems agency that will own/operate the hospital, anda consultant. Preplanning was conducted in accordance with applicable NFPA standards throughout the construction process from 2008–2011.
