Fixed fire suppression systems in road tunnels and even some rail tunnels are becoming more common. A key question being asked is whether to operate such systems automatically or manually, and particularly, whether that should occur in the evacuation period. This session will discuss the pros and cons of suppression operation during occupant egress and provide practical advice to tunnel designers and emergency services.
