23711 - Migration of Jews from the Mediterranean Basin in World War I $10.95
Select Format:

Yitzchak Kerem

In WWI there were distinct migratory trends of Sephardim and Jews originating from Arab lands from the Mediterranean to the Americas. Most of the migration consisted of Sephardic and Eastern Jews, but also Ashkenazi Jews from Ottoman Eretz-Israel wee exiled and migrated to the Americas and even Australia. These Jewish migrants set up their own synagogues and communities in the Americas, and laid down traditions for the next generations; including naming patterns from the community and land of origins; mixed with name changes in the new country. Some examples of the naming process amongst these various groups will be discussed in the presentation.
