Following dental treatment, many patients are managed with analgesics. Pain management can be particularly challenging in patients already suffering from chronic pain disorders. Dentists must understand the pharmacologic management of chronic pain to determine the best strategy for managing acute dental pain in those chronic pain patients. Dr. Sims will review the pharmacologic treatment of chronic pain disorders and identify analgesic choices for managing acute pain in chronic pain patients. This will help the dentist optimize pain management while minimizing the potential for adverse drug events.
