28903 - The Search for Miklos Reismann and the Rescue of Jewish Children in Budapest, 1944-45 $9.00
Select Format:

Format: Download Slides with Synchronized Audio - MP4 Video File $9

Presenter: Peter Tarjan

Our project began 20 years ago when two US-born cousins, Kathy and Judy Altman, were searching for their first cousin, Miklós, who was born in Uzhgorod in 1937 and whose tracks disappeared in 1945. Ilona, Miklós's mother, was probably taken on the Eichmann March around November 1944; she survived and returned to Budapest to find her son. I assisted the Altman sisters since I was born in Budapest and was also a child whose parents were taken by the Nazis and never returned. Our search involved many individuals in the US, Canada, Hungary and Israel. As the material amassed, our search expanded to the rescue efforts for thousands of children separated from their parents. In addition to Miklos's story, whose tragic fate was discovered in 2016, other stories of child survivors will be presented along with information about the scope of the rescue effort. Our sources will be presented.
