32317 - The Significant Seven: Hungarian First Cousins Who Survive the Shoah $9.00
Select Format:

Presenter: Michael Gyory; Judi Missel
Format: Download MP3 Audio

Our father, born in Budapest, Hungary, was one of seven first cousins. Amazingly all seven survived the Shoah and in many different ways; some are hidden in the countryside, one is saved by Raoul Wallenberg at the Swedish Embassy, one survives Auschwitz, one lives out the war in the Budapest ghetto, and our father was in forced labor camps. Three are still alive today including the most famous, gymnast Agi Keleti-Biro. Now 98 years old, she is still the female Jewish athlete with the most Olympic medals. Their story also represents the diaspora with two moving to Canada, one in the US, one in Israel, one in Australia, and two remaining in Hungary. Michael will discuss techniques of how to write your family memoir. Judi will illustrate research techniques to find your family story and fill out your family tree through genealogical and online resources.
