Vidant Medical Center (VMC), a 909-bed teaching hospital and flagship of Vidant Health, is one of the largest and busiest acute care hospitals in North Carolina. Since 2014, VMC has used a multidimensional approach to develop standards for managing safety events, resulting in a 50% increase in event reporting over four years, a 100% increase in physician event reporting year over year, and an average of 200 safety catches reported per month.
