This course will position electrical contractors at the forefront of creating the major new and rapidly expanding green energy business sector of Comprehensive Facility Energy by educating and training electrical contractors, staff, and electricians in the best practices and most effective techniques to conduct Comprehensive Facility Energy Audits (CFEA) via Facilities Energy Audit Training (FEAT). The Facility Energy Audit Training course consists of two phases of technical CFEA application: (1) Initial Energy Audit Screening, and (2) Preliminary Energy Assessment (PEA) Data Collection.
This session will leave electrical contractors with skills to identify energy efficiency project opportunities in commercial, industrial and institutional facilities. Screening Audit training will prepare newly minted auditors to conduct “first blush,” high level assessments of entire facilities. All major systems are assessed including the building envelope, mechanical systems, and electrical systems. The Screening Audit does not include detailed measurements or testing, but frequently leads to a second phase of the process – the Preliminary Energy Assessment (PEA).
The structure and treatment of the Facility Energy Audit Training course is designed to:
- Engage participants’ attention from the start, and keep their attention throughout the course work.
- Introduce course topics in a concise conceptual level, with only the required amount of technical detail.
- Incrementally build understanding and actively practice application of required skills and knowledge in manner that parallels the “real world” requirements as closely as possible.
- Test participants’ knowledge regarding a Screening Audit, and test participants’ ability to complete a PEA audit given a “typical” customer situation.
Bill Paletski is a senior technical specialist with the Pennsylvania Technical Assistance Program (PennTAP). He has more than twenty-one years of environmental and occupational safety experience in the public and private sectors, including five years with professional engineering consulting firms. Bill has a bachelor's degree in environmental engineering from Wilkes College and a master of engineering degree in environmental pollution control from Penn State. He is a doctoral candidate in adult education at Penn State. Bill is a registered professional engineer (PE) in Pennsylvania. He has published several articles in the environmental engineering field and has developed numerous computer-based training programs for clients in Pennsylvania. He has also been the recipient of the University Economic Development Association Project-of-the-Year award on two occasions.
Mark Toda has served the Pennsylvania Technical Assistance Program (PennTAP) as a senior technical specialist in northeastern Pennsylvania for more than 15 years. He has assisted numerous businesses with the technical issues facing them and has worked with a variety of resources, both within the University and without, in developing potential solutions. Mark's technical background includes experience in engineering mechanics and finite element analysis. He previously served as manager of packaging design analysis at IBM Corporation, providing mechanical analysis support to electronics packaging development engineering. He holds a bachelor's degree in bioengineering from Syracuse University and a master's degree in theoretical and applied mechanics from Cornell University. Mark works closely with the Ben Franklin Partnership Program, the Pennsylvania Industrial Resource Centers, and the Small Business Development Centers.
