B1 Cry Out With Joy: Celebrating the Liturgy of the Word in Song
Mr. David Haas
One of the most significant reforms of the liturgy since the Second Vatican Council has been the evolution of the importance of the Liturgy of the Word. The emergence of the Bible in the lives of Catholics and the significance of the renewed Lectionary has become a central path for celebrating the presence of Christ in the praying assembly. Music has been and continues to be an important force bringing the scriptures to life. This workshop will be a musical celebration of the ritual tonality needed for the Word to be celebrated and integrated in the prayer of the liturgy, as we examine the richness of the Responsorial Psalm as sung prayer and a bridge to the proclamation of the Gospel; the need for acclamations that truly awaken the community to hear, listen and witness to the primacy of the Gospel reading, and the often-neglected communal praying of the Universal Prayer. Come and learn how these ritual moments are connected, taking part in singing, praying and celebrating while we examine many musical examples and options as well as the roles of the cantor/psalmist and the choir/vocal ensemble.
