Presenter: Dabney Ewin, MD, ABMH

Before the New Age movement, spirituality was generally considered synonymous with religion, but a 2005 poll indicated that 24% of Americans identified themselves as 'spiritual but not religious.' Spirituality, by its very nature, is purely subjective. It has come to be associated with our unselfish senses of kindness, compassion, altruism, forgiveness, and charitable love, which may or may not be based on religion.

This presentation will be three case reports in which hypnosis was meaningful in curing patients who were troubled in their own spirituality. One was hypnotically focused in a meaningful prayer. Another involves modulating the strong sense of compassion that a little boy has for animals. And one involves a young widow dealing with guilt and shame who is able to forgive herself and get well.
