This course reviews the physiologic functions of saliva as a vital biologic fluid, and then categorizes the intraoral conditions and diseases that are the consequences of loss of each function. Next, the multifactorial cause of xerostomia (i.e., drug reactions, systemic disease, atrophy, Sjogrens, radiation, salivary gland disease, etc.) are discussed and then specific dental management is detailed.
