Using the 2008 Charleston Preservation Plan as a prototype, panelists will examine
planning approaches that balance growth, economic development, sustainability,
and preservation. They will review strategies that combine multidisciplinary
collaboration, inclusive outreach, and integration with existing tools. The Galveston,
Texas, Height and Density Plan will be used as a case study to analyze the results
of allowing higher density development in and around historic neighborhoods.
