The National Register of Historic Places criteria consideration “g” states that a
property cannot be listed if it achieved its significance within the past 50 years
unless it is of exceptional significance. But what is exceptional significance and
why 50 years, when we’re losing important resources now that won’t reach that
birthday without some protection? Join a roundtable discussion with regulators,
advocates, and preservation practitioners exploring and questioning the efficacy
of these and other National Register policies as they apply to recent past
preservation.
