This course will review the pharmacology of local anesthetics. The chemistry, formulation, physiology, local anesthetics, and infected tissue and buffering as well as the causes of injection pain will be discussed. Attendees will review measuring and achieving anesthetic success, failures, and consequences of failed anesthetic. The instructor will discuss how to eliminate certain types of failures and real time course of analgesia in dentistry will be reveiwed. Anesthetic performance background, clinical data review of time course of analgesia, impact of time course to the daily practice, and products that improve the time course of analgesia will be examined. The local complications of anesthetic injections and the ten most common complications will also be reveiewed.
