This session reviews the results of The Fire Protection Research Foundation's workshop on fire suppression and detection challenges for data centers.

Ralph Transue is Senior Consultant for Rolf Jensen & Associates and Sako & Associates, and is a Director of The RJA Group, Inc. He has been actively involved in the development and application of fire protection and protective signaling systems for many years. Mr. Transue has in-depth experience in protection of telecommunications facilities, data processing centers and satellite tracking stations; alarm system design for major hotels, university and other campuses, high rise buildings, health care facilities, utility plants and corporate headquarters facilities; concepts for nondestructive fire protection in museums, libraries, historic buildings, and record storage facilities. He has consulted on alarm notification needs for special circumstances including mission control facilities and hearing-impaire persons. His technical publications cover explosion proof and intrinsicall safe fire detection systems, advanced fire detection concepts, design of integrated fire protection concepts for telecommunications facilities, the impact of modern electronics on fire protection systems, and fire safety programs for intelligent buildings

David Quirk is a Principal Engineer with Verizon Wireless Network Organization based in their headquarters in NJ since 2005. He is responsible for managing the design and construction of VZW's critical network facilities throughout the U.S. David is licensed Professional Engineer and a LEED Accredited Professional. He has received his BSME from the University of Akron, Oh. David is a past Chapter President of ASHRAE, a voting member on NFPA-76 and NFPA-75, a voting member of ASHRAE TC9.9, a voting member of SPC-127, and the Vice Chair for ASHRAE TC9.9.
