Presenter: Marty Ahrens, NFPA · Judy Comoletti, NFPA
The latest statistics about home fire causes and circumstances tell part of the story. The latest messages provide important advice about how to stay safe. Sometimes both can overlook important local differences. For example, cooking and heating are the leading causes of home fires. However, various groups may cook differently, heat their homes differently, and be more or less receptive to various approaches to life safety education. In other words, one size does not fit all. In this interactive session, we’ll fill in an outline based on what we know about the overall U.S. home fire problem, current messaging, and NFPA public education resources, including participant discussion of local experiences. What specific fire problems have you seen and how have you addressed them?
