A variety of hose stream types and application techniques are used by firefighters to combat structure fires; it is imperative they have an in-depth knowledge of the impacts different hose stream types and applications can have to ensure correct tactics are applied on the fire ground. Experimental research, using live-fire scenarios, has been conducted by NIST to determine how different hose streams can affect the movement and cooling of hot gases in structure fires. This session will examine the findings of such research, as well as research conducted to determine how hose stream applications move air throughout a structure with no fire involvement.
