Recognizing that many fire chiefs come from a fire suppression background and struggle to understand how best to support Fire and Life Safety Education (FLSE), the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association and an educator banded together to develop a required FLSE module for the Chief Officer designation. The FLSE module--which has been referred to as a game-changer by some participants--covers A History of Large Life Loss Fires, The Five E's of Fire Prevention, High Risk Groups, The Five-Step Process, Community Risk Assessment, and Four Forms of Evaluation. During this session, the speakers will chronicle the challenges faced in creating a program that is both meaningful and useful.
