Management Of The Caries Ravaged Dentition: Children, Adolescents, Adults & Older Adults

This presentation focuses on novel, as well as evidence-based methods for management of tooth decay from early childhood caries to root caries in an aging population. From risk assessment to earliest lesion detection, new options for simplified caries arrest, pulp preservation and dental restoration will be reviewed, discussed and demonstrated.

Learning objectives:
Participants will be able to:

  • Define the acronym ART and include a description of the "ninth step of ART".
  • Cite at least one major composition difference between fluoride releasing composites and glass ionomer cements.
  • Learn based on clinical findings, what daily xylitol "dose" can be expected to produce a change in oral microflora associated with dental plaque?
  • List one similarity shared by glass ionomer and calcium silicate cements; list at least 2 formulation differences between the two remineralizing cements.
