NRCA technical services section staff will moderate a panel discussion of industry experts experienced in recycling roofing materials. Local regulations and practices often dictate the need for, extent and viability of roofing component recycling.? Roof membrane, asphalt shingle and roofing tear-off will be specifically discussed, as well the development of an ASTM standard practice for roof recycling.??

Disposal of roof tear-off and construction-generated debris is becoming more complicated, burdensome and costly.? Also, in the growing regulatory, green and sustainability environment, debris recycling is becoming increasingly common. A panel of industry experts will discuss planning for, and disposal and recycling of construction-generated debris specifically from a roofing standpoint. Topics to be addressed include code and regulatory issues relating to construction generated debris disposal and recycling, construction waste management planning and documentation,? and recycling programs specific asphalt shingles, roof membrane products and insulation.? Time will be allotted for questions from and discussion with audience participants.

Objectives:
1. Discuss regulatory issues limiting disposal and encouraging recycling of construction-generated debris.
2. Identify emerging?construction waste management planning and documentation requirements.
3. Evaluate recycling efforts for used asphalt shingle, roof membrane and insulation products.
4. Discuss development of an industry-consensus-based standard for recycling used roofing materials.
