Presenter:Trent Cotney & Dan Auerbach

Drug abuse at the work place has plagued the roofing industry for decades.? With the legalization of marijuana in many states and the ease of obtaining opioids, roofing contractors are required to implement safety and HR policies to combat systemic drug use while on the job. The opioid epidemic costs American employers $10 billion a year in productivity and absenteeism. The rapidly changing laws regarding marijuana usage have employers wondering whether an employee is entitled to reasonable accommodations in the workplace and whether changes need to be made to drug-free workplace plans.
This seminar helps roofers understand the issues from an employer standpoint and the importance of creating legal policies and procedures to address the crisis. This session is presented at an intermediate level.

1. Evaluate the safety issues associated with drug use and prepare documents to assist in combating the problem.
2. Create employee policies that encourage reporting and promote rehabilitation.
3. Identify changes needed in employee manuals to address opioid and marijuana use.
4. Recognize the issues with marijuana and opioid use and how it can affect the workplace.
