As clinicians we are routinely faced with patients that present with various gastrointestinal complaints that when further explored are directly linked to their overall level of systemic wellness. This presentation will discuss the role of the GI tract on neurotransmitter regulation, pain, nutrient absorption relative to the Catch 22 of GI disease, the inflammatory role of GI health and weight gain and the influence of European research on gut ecology. Additional focus will be placed on food addiction, the role of gluten, and altered brain chemistry.
