Following the 1950 Iraqi law that stated that Jews who will leave Iraq will lose their Iraqi citizenship the Iraqi Government published indexes/registers of the names of those whose nationality expired. The volume which relates to the Jews of Baghdad was discovered about a decade ago. It contains the names of 38,000 adult Jews in alphabetical order of given name+ father's name+grandfather's name and the year of birth. All of the people were born between 1880 and 1935. This big DB offers an unique opportunity to index all the given names which were in use among the Jews of Baghdad and to learn when the first foreign i.e. European given names started appearing there.
