 20906 - Music and Trance: Creative Use of Music in Ericksonian Hypnotherapy $16.00

Presenter: Anita Jung. MS. LPC

The Greek philosopher Pythagoras was among the first to recognize the healing powers of music. Milton Erickson, the musician of mind, body and soul, was the first to structure communication for greatest effect so that clients could change many aspects of their lives, not merely their presenting symptoms. Just as the cadence of voice and patterns of speech form the music of Ericksonian communication, repetition and rhythm create the emergence of a trance state in music. The use of music within a hypnotherapy model functions as a catalyst accentuating the nuances of seeding, guiding associations, and deepening trance states.

Through lecture, video and audio vignettes, and experiential techniques, participants will experience how to musically transform a mood state, understand how to isolate the functions of music to intensify hypnotic sensations, and how to use rhythm as a communication tool to guide associations and deepen trance. The latest research will examine the link between melody and the mind that suggests that listening to and playing music alters how our brains, and therefore our bodies, function. Additionally, a group induction will demonstrate the utilization of music in hypnotherapy.

During and at the conclusion of this session, the attendee will be able to:
-> Demonstrate two Ericksonian techniques found in music to rapidly induce trance in order to add musicality to your sessions;
-> Describe how to utilize music as a seeding device and practice its application;
-> Construct and utilize a method to rapidly bypass resistance in clientele to increase rapport and treatment outcome; and
-> Articulate and demonstrate melodic techniques for eliciting hypnotic phenomena as a new method of treatment.
