Gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, particularly functional disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) are prevalent and associated with high morbidity, associated high rates of anxiety and depression, and impaired societal productivity. Hypnosis has been shown to have efficacy in treating IBS. This workshop will review the empirical evidence to support use of hypnosis in IBS and demonstrate specific hypnotic tools to achieve this impact. It will also provide practical suggestions about how to integrate hypnosis into medical and psychological treatments of IBS.
