Imaging the Problem - Healing the Image
Philip R. Appel, PhD; Moshe Torem, MD
Imagery techniques have often been used in hypnotherapy to help elucidate or uncover conflicts as well as serve as a medium for intervention through their nature as analogic communications/suggestions to the right hemisphere. Understanding the unique aspects and temporal qualities of images of pain, loss, fear and rage is important to bring about therapeutic change. In this workshop the presenters will be sharing their original ways of uncovering and working with the images of depression, anxiety, dysphoria and pain. The learning process will be didactic as well as experiential in nature.
Attendees of this workshop will have the chance to learn the impact and value of imagery enhanced by hypnosis and later implement such interventions and techniques in the clinical setting of their practice.
At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to…
- Know at least two factors in the theoretical foundation of therapeutic imagery;
- Know the difference between merged imagery and separated imagery; and
- Know at least one technique of enhancing imagery with hypnosis.
