This presentation will explain how forensic reconstruction of the explosion at Imperial Sugar Company, conducted in compliance with NFPA 921, Guide for Fire and Explosion Investigations, shows that the popular notion of what happened is incorrect. The session will present actual evidence developed during the scene documentation and the engineering analysis of that evidence to develop a conclusion regarding the process and progress of this event that is consistent with all of the available evidence. It illustrates how fire protection engineering analysis is used to fulfill the methodological requirements of NFPA 921.
