This presentation will briefly review the long history of migration, drastic population reductions, expansions and geographical isolation, and how the Jewish people represent a unique genetic architecture with many autosomal recessive diseases discovered in Jewish communities around the world. We will discuss genealogical autosomal testing that we recently undertook among nearly one hundred Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa (RDEB) patients of Latino background identified within the Southwest United States, Mexico and throughout Latin America. Among the patients, we found genetic indicators of Crypto-Jewish descent, as well as endogamy resulting from fear of persecution during the Inquisition.
