Stanley Malamed, DDS is a professor of anesthesia and medicine at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry at the University of Southern Californ

Medical emergencies can, and do, happen in the dental office. In this course, Dr. Malamed will review the basics in preparation of the office and staff in the management of common medical emergency situations. The goal of the dentist is to keep the victim alive until either he or she recovers or help arrives on the scene to take over the patient’s management. Knowing what to do in these 10 minutes can save a life.

Learning Objectives: 

  • Describe the basic management protocol for medical emergencies
  • List and describe the indications for the seven basic emergency drugs
  • Learn the duties of each member of the in-office emergency team
  • Manage altered consciousness, respiratory distress, and allergic reactions
