Motivational Enhancement Hypnosis: Combining MET and Hypnosis for Improved Outcomes
Michael S. McGee, MS, LPC, DCH; H. Thomas Mullis, PhD
Current research indicates that both Motivational Interviewing and Hypnosis are effective in assisting clients to change behaviors. Motivational interviewing has been used successfully in counseling practice for many years. These techniques are helpful in clarifying client goals for therapy and their motivations to change. By using these techniques, the client's own language and reasons for change can be inserted into hypnotherapy scripts. As a result, the scripts become more personal and powerful as agents to assist in behavior change. This workshop focuses on the techniques for combining these two powerful methods to improve client outcomes.
At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to…
Understand Motivational Interviewing;
Apply these techniques to enhance therapeutic hypnosis scripts as measured by post test; and
Use techniques with one another to develop improved hypnotic scripts using basic
scripts provided by presenter. Scripts will be assessed by presenter for quality and use of
technique based on number of motivational insertions.
